eighteen: the year of release, 2018. eighteen: the age at which i first used a synthesizer. in creating eighteen i worked independently in the studio, initially building up tracks with synthesizers and found sounds recorded in my daily comings and goings. after working with the tracks over a period of months, i shared them with a few musicians, who added their own instrumental layers. though working independently, we all shared a similar working process: working in our personal recording spaces, as opposed to larger recording studios.

the latest release on arma comes from dutch legend and devoutly deviant underground operator ruud lekx, aka rude 66. with a legacy that reaches back to the early 90s and the rough and ready dutch electro sound of bunker records and the hague, hes maintained a distinctly non-conformist approach that touches on acid, italo, techno and more besides, all finished with the punky attitude that sets him and peers like unit moebius and i-f apart. the tracks gathered together on the witch trials ep come from throughout lekxs career. as the artist himself says, tracks from wildly different eras and sessions suddenly can combine to form one coherent ep. its almost like the a-side tracks were waiting for 20 years to be combined with the b-side tracks. the overriding theme that binds together these timeless machine excursions is that of medieval witch trials a global phenomenon that peaked in the 15-1600s. considering the suspicion, propaganda and mass moral panic involved in this strange curio of distant history, lekx points to the parallels with the current age, of political polarization and fake news accusations flying all over. the ep title is also a tribute to two records close to his heart: the falls live at the witch trials, and the one-off witch trials project by members of the dead kennedys, adrian borland and christian lunch. werewolves & poisoners and the crusade against idolatry are both archive tracks from the 1994-5 period when lekx made his first albums for bunker records.

oufoufof represents the beginning of a new turn for shxcxchcxsh, one born out of a fresh conceptual approach to rhythm. having concentrated in recent years on music for more experimental scenes, shxcxchcxsh wanted to create music for the club, but not with the usual 4/4 approach. ...the main focus being our relationship with the dancers minds and how we do our best to fuck with them . stylistically, the project began with a discussion about rhythm, about what is interesting and what is not. the result is a conceptualized approach, one in which multiple sounds in each track are based around a single rhythmic pattern. this concept has been extended holistically, to track names and artwork. ultimately, what began life as a series of records has evolved into an eight-track lp of twisted, polyrhythmic studies in pattern and texture. fresh off the back of shulululu ep for avian, oufoufof, is the fourth studio long-player from the swedish duo and will be released on their own label rosten

four years after his breakthrough, max graef returns to tartelet records with his second solo album, “lo siento mucho pero no hablo tu idioma”. a dungeon dub symphony in four parts, “lo siento mucho pero no hablo tu idioma” is an album’s album. brimming with new and old guests, interludes and bonus skits, it’s a consummate sketchbook of graef’s most unique music to date. “every bit of music or work represents the mood and skills of a certain period,” he says.

mangled records twentieth release also marks 20 years since its first release. to celebrate the occasion here are two of ray mangs better known and loved tracks together on one 180gram mangled 12inch for you! number one first surfaced on his solo debut 96 noid release. it gained widespread support in the clubs and went on to be featured on both dfps de-luxe house of funk and groove armadas back to mine compilations as well as his own mangled lp. look into my eyes is a blissed out balearic gem that featured on the b side of rays 10 dfa release and instantly became a firm favourite for many.

after keeping an eye on shan as a desired candidate for a while now, we proudly announce to launch his latest release via footjob. his records on running back, beats in space & the healing company during the last 5 years were critically well received and put him on the musical map - a highly gifted producer who’s capable of going into many directions. his “filterjob ep” takes us back to the golden era of sample house. driving beats combined with filtered disco melodies never get out of style. if anyone it’s shan who’s able to play with this type of sound and manages to deliver three superb dance floor bangers in filterjob, on & on and serious. to rounds things up, the ep finishes with a raw and dusty deep house banger called ruff draft pt.2

the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

autarkic describe himself as first and foremost a songwriter but he has also made a name for himself as an international dj. over the past three years the musician based in tel aviv has, with great success, played clubs throughout all of europe. one extra memorable gig was on last year’s edition of convenanza in the amphitheatre in sete, france. rumour has it that the sea living mammals of the area flocked in large groups in the waters below during autarkic’s gig. this 12” picture vinyl is his first release on hoga nord rekords and the slightly psychedelic, sample- and synthesiser based club music that has become autarkic’s trademark sound is captured by an impeccable production. the music is playful, yet stripped down to the essentials and not overloaded. the vocal elements works more as percussive elements than the carrier of the storytelling in the music. if you missed him live or just don’t have the means to go see him, this record give a taste of autarkic’s hypnotic live performances!

this time mattia chosed a banging tune “time struggle” with the first new school version, classic heavy techno beat with saturated 303 sub melodies and a futuristic pad to complete this version. the old school version is more percussive acidic, no pad melodies, no compromises, just straight to the point for killing every dance floor.
in the b side there’s a perfect rework from a dutch techno master steve rachmad as sterac, more 909 clean beat rhythmic and minimal detroit infected. the last track “floating life” is a typical drum’n’bass spirit influence of mattia, 170 percussive beat with space pads typical of 90 jungle works in the uk.
